About

Barbara S Stamegna

Automatic Symbolism Artist

At the heart of my artistic research lies a continuous search for spiritual truth. This inner quest guides my creative process, while painting becomes a means through which the invisible can gradually manifest itself. My creative process is intuitive and spontaneous. I usually begin a painting without a predetermined image or knowing what the final work will look like. I allow colors, lines, textures and gestures to develop freely, without consciously directing them towards a specific subject. As the work progresses, forms gradually emerge from the layers of color and begin to reveal themselves, often suggesting symbolic or organic shapes. I follow this emergence intuitively, allowing the painting itself to guide the creative process. I refer to this approach as “Automatic Symbolism”: a process in which forms and symbols arise spontaneously from the act of painting rather than being conceived in advance.

My artistic journey, is constantly evolving and develops through successive creative phases, each characterized by the expressive language that better reflects my evolution in spiritual search. Every cycle of works is born from a deep intuition that, over time, naturally develops until it exhausts its creative force, making room for a new research. This is not a deliberate change of style, but a spontaneous evolution that reflects my inner path and the continuous desire to explore new aspects of creation and the spiritual dimension. Each series thus represents an autonomous chapter of my artistic journey, while maintaining as a common thread the search for light, harmony, and love that gave rise to creation.

My artworks are permanently exhibited in private and public collections in Europe and USA, and have been exhibited in prestigious group and solo shows in Italy and abroad, including the Artexpo in New York.

I received positive reviews from International Art Critics such as Prof. Giovanni Mazzetti, ex member of the jury of the Venice Biennale:

“I know and admire the art of our good and prepared artist: Barbara Stamegna…, an artist prepared for the great climb in the difficult world of contemporary art.  Her palette is rich and full of cultural values, her tracing is all personal, the interest expressed by the national critics towards her painting leads us in thinking that we have a painter capable of making people talk about her art… In each painting, one notices with satisfaction the interpretive growth to be given to each of her achievements.   In each of his works one notices inspirational breadth, blending it all into expressive imagination.   In her works, imbued with far-reaching human, ethical and cultural values, making the message of this most valid and fascinating art universal.   My complete approval, with the wish for great success in the world of art.”

For the high level of professionalism she has achieved in the artistic field, Barbara Stamegna received, throughout her artistic career, noteworthy recognitions and awards, such as the “Coppa Pacis” Prize in Florence, the Portugal International Prize (City of Lisbon), the Milanart Prize in Milan, the “L’Aquila della Libertà” Prize of Honor in Florence, the Modern Fine Arts Prize “Il Nodo d’Italia” in Livorno, the National Universal Values of Humanity Prize in Vercelli, the prestigious Oscar Prize for Visual Arts in Castrocaro Terme, the Grand Prize of Italy in Reggio Emilia, the Grand Prize “Terra d’Etruria” in Grosseto, the Europa Art Mediolanum Prize in Milan, etc.
